ABOUT THE HONOREE AND HOST

Dan Abrams

Dan Abrams is the CEO and Founder of Abrams Media, Chief Legal Affairs Anchor for ABC News, the host of top-rated cable series “Live PD” on A&E Network, and the host of SiriusXM’s The Dan Abrams Show: Where Politics Meets The Law. The Abrams Media properties welcome over 15 million unique visitors per month. Mr. Abrams was previously the co-anchor of ABC's Nightline, host of “The Abrams Report” and the acclaimed “Verdict with Dan Abrams” on MSNBC, as well as the long-time Chief Legal Correspondent for ABC News. Dan also served as General Manager of MSNBC, where he presided over a period of unprecedented growth, with ratings and profits each increasing well over 50% during his tenure. During that time, Dan was a member of the NBC Universal President’s Council.

Mr. Abrams holds a B.A. from Duke University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. In addition, he has published several bestselling books. His latest work, Theodore Roosevelt for the Defense: The Courtroom Battle to Save His Legacy, will be available in May, 2019.

Midwin Charles, Esq.

Midwin Charles is the founder of Midwin Charles & Associates LLC and a Contributor at Essence Magazine. She holds a B.A. from Syracuse University and a J.D. from the American University, Washington College of Law. Post law school, Ms. Charles served as a law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for Sixth Circuit Judge Eric L. Clay and as the A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. Research Fellow in Social Justice at Harvard Law School, under the supervision of Charles J. Ogletree, Jr.  Ms. Charles regularly provides commentary on law, pop culture, and politics for various television shows and media outlets including CNN, HLN, MSNBC, Bloomberg TV, TV One, and New York’s 107.5 WBLS.  Active in community affairs, she is a member of the Dean's Diversity Council for the American University, Washington College of Law and a member of the board of Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN). In addition, Ms. Charles is a long-standing supporter of the students of SLJ.

Darla Miles

Darla Miles joined the WABC-TV Eyewitness News Team as a general assignment reporter in 2009. Since then, she has earned four Emmy nominations, including one for “Outstanding General Assignment Reporter” in New York in 2013 and another for “Best Live/Spot News Reporter” in 2019. Before coming to WABC-TV, Ms. Miles worked in reporting related capacities for WFAA-TV in Dallas, WTVD-TV in Raleigh, WJBF-TV in Augusta, and CNN Headline News in Atlanta. Darla is a Texas native and holds a B.A. from Spelman College. In addition, she is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Bergen County (NJ) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.
