SLJ expects students to adhere to a dress code.
Through a referral process, an SLJ student may receive a 1 to 2 hour detention, depending on the severity the offense, for any behavior infraction that violates the citywide standards of discipline mandated by the New York City Department of Education or any behavior that is determined by a teacher or SLJ staff person to be disruptive, unsafe or compromises the academic progress of the classroom or whole school environment.
When a student cuts daily detention for the first time the detention will be rescheduled for the next school day. A staff member from the school will call the parent/guardian and inform them that the student has cut detention.
When a student cuts daily detention for a second time a staff member from the school will call the parent/guardian and inform them that the student must report to school on Saturday with school work to complete and in full dress code.
Saturday detention takes place at the school in room 335.
Saturday detention begins at 9:00 AM. Students are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to ensure they are on time and ready to begin working when detention begins.
Students are to arrive in full dress code with school work to complete.
When a student cuts Saturday detention for the first time the detention will be rescheduled for the following Saturday. A staff member will the call the parent/guardian to schedule a conference.
When a student cuts Saturday detention for the second time the student will be placed on a principal's suspension until a parent/guardian conference is held. A staff member from the school will call the parent/guardian to inform them of this action.
