college readiness
A strong academic education is the foundation for success in college, and SLJ's first priority for students. Colleges also look for students who know how to learn and succeed beyond school walls; they want applicants who have explored their unique talents, taken leadership roles, and worked to become well-rounded young men and women. All SLJ students experience a series of regular college readiness lessons and activities in Advisory as well as opportunities to learn and grow outside the classroom. SLJ's Program Office coordinates and creates internships, pre-college programs, off-site enrichment programs at cultural and educational organizations throughout NYC, and our own After School Learning Academy (ASLA).

Seniors: College Ready |
SLJ Seniors complete the college process by submitting applications, resumes, personal statements, and financial aid applications to a range of colleges. Families receive assistance filing the Federal Financial Aid Form, FAFSA, to ensure that students can afford college while borrowing as little as possible. Our full-time College Advisor works one-on-one with students and families to ensure that all college and financial aid applications are complete, accurate, and competitive. Locating appropriate transitions for students who are not headed to college is also a part of SLJ's advising process.
